SUPER SATURDAYS
Free Family Fun Days on 2nd Saturdays of the month (except June), 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Saturday, October 14, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Water Super Saturday
Living on the lakeshore means that we have a major connection and relationship to water. Explore the many ways water relates to art, from using it to create artwork (like watercolors!) to artists using it as a theme or inspiration. Note: For more inspiration, enjoy Muskegon Area Arts and Humanities Festival programs this month—The 2017 ahfest theme is “Water!” (www.ahfest.org)
10:00 am & 1:00 pm Film: Finding Dory
(97 mins.) Join the happy-go-lucky Dory (who has a bad memory) on a journey to find her family. There are lots of ups and downs on her adventure but best of all she discovers many new friends along way.
11:00 am – 1:00 pm Guided Look
Explore how many of the MMA’s permanent works of art have a water theme.
11:00 am – 2:00 pm Make & Take
Lots of things live in the water. Create your own under water creature—mermaid or merman—using found materials to create texture and dimension.

Saturday, November 11, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Origami Super Saturday
Join our youngest design team during this Origami Super Saturday. Ms. Ronace will lead this team to flip and fold their own unique origami ornaments for our 6th Super Saturday Holiday Tree, which will be part of the Festival of Trees event that starts November 22nd. Youth participants will get a free Festival of Trees admission ticket.
10:00 am & 1:00 pm Film: Origami Fun For Kids, Too!
(92 mins.) This film will show the basic techniques to successfully make various origami pieces. Beginners of all ages can watch and learn how to create a Masu Box, with lid and divider, a Chaos Cube, a Trick Sailboat, a Basketball Hoop, a Makoto Koma (spinning top), a Jumping Frog, and a Handbag/Gift bag
11:00 am – 1:00 pm Guided Look
Find the geometric shapes in the artwork located upstairs in the galleries. Can you fold paper to mimic those shapes? How are those shapes alike or different from origami pieces you created?
11:00 am – 2:00 pm Make & Take
Flip and fold your own origami ornament to decorate the Super Saturday Tree that will be a part of the Festival of Trees.
