American Visions: The History of American Art and Architecture – The Wilderness and the West

2nd & 4th Thursdays, March through June

The Muskegon Museum of Art’s permanent collection is enriched by a large selection of American artwork. The film series American Visions highlights many styles and artists in the MMA’s collection. Host Robert Hughes takes viewers on a journey exploring America through art, architecture, and history from colonial America to the late 20th century.

Films start at 12:15 pm on the following Thursdays. Auditorium doors open at noon. Each film runs one hour.

  • March 8: The Republic of Virtue
  • March 22: The Promised Lands
  • April 12: The Wilderness and the West
  • April 26: The Gilded Age
  • May 10: A Wave from the Atlantic
  • May 24: Streamlines and Breadlines
  • June 14: The Empire of Signs
  • June 28: The Age of Anxiety

Brown Bag Film admission is free. Complimentary coffee, cookies, and water are available. Paid admission is required to enter the galleries. Program support is provided by the Michigan Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
