The Prehistoric Artist

April 18 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 pm

Friends of Art Program

Join guest speaker, MMA Docent Don Rohlck and his friend Alley Oop on a trip back in time to enter the creative minds of the prehistoric artist. The greatest innovation in the history of humankind was neither the stone tool nor the steel sword, but the invention of symbolic expression by the First Artists. Where did art begin? Anatomically, modern people evolved in Africa some 250,000 years ago, but human behavior such as body ornaments, symbols scratched on cave walls, and other activities that were playful, amorous or symbolic came 100,000 years later.

Program admission is free. Paid admission is required for gallery entry.
