OPENING RECEPTION & ARTIST TALK
Sonja Blomdahl: Incalmo/glass
Reception from 5:30 - 7:00 pm.
Talk by Sonja Blomdahl at 7:00 pm.
Master glass artist Sonja Blomdahl bases her colorful and vibrant forms on classical Greek container forms, using her own sensibility and technical skill to transform them into distinctly modern artworks. The incalmo technique involves the fusing of two bubbles of glass into one continuous shape, resulting in a unique layering of transparent color. Blomdahl's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in the collections of the Renwick Gallery, the Corning Museum of Glass, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, the Muskegon Museum of Art, and in many private collections. She owns and operates her own studio in Seattle and teaches at the renowned Pilchuck Glass School. Incalmo is organized by the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts and is the artist's first solo museum exhibition.
