Regional Exhibition Call for Entries

West Michigan Artists: Entries for the 81st Regional Exhibition will be accepted May 7 through May 9.

The Muskegon Museum of Art continues to celebrate the art of West Michigan with the 81st Regional Exhibition, which opens May 28 and continues through August 5. All area artists 18 years and older who reside in the 231, 616, and 269 area codes are invited to submit up to two artworks for juror selection. Regional artwork registration starts Thursday, May 7 and continues through Saturday, May 9. Over $2,400 in cash and purchase prizes will be awarded. The Juror
Maria Tomasula is an artist and professor of art at the University of Notre Dame. Her vibrant paintings are meticulously painted at a level so exacting that the hand of the artist is nearly invisible. Her contemporary still life arrangements, with their visceral references to martyrdom, sainthood, and fetishism, become metaphors for human spirituality. Tomasula has shown extensively throughout the Midwest and is represented by Zolla/Lieberman in Chicago and Forum Gallery in New York and Los Angeles. Her most recent solo show appeared at the Muskegon Museum of Art in the spring of 2008.
