Artist Brett Colley will present examples of his work inspired from a decade spent examining the role of art in activism, and his own political awakening. Colley earned his MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa in 1994 and is an Associate Professor of Art at Grand Valley State University; Colley teaches a variety of courses including Drawing, Printmaking, and Senior Seminar. His work has been exhibited widely, in over 30 states and six countries. His recent projects—including installations in Cleveland, Chicago, and Davenport, Iowa—address issues of eco-justice, with an especially keen interest in animal rights and the abolition of factory farming. Colley is also an active curator, serving on the Curatorial Board of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts since 2004.
