The Muskegon Museum of Art's School Field Trip Fund helps schools pay for busing costs associated with field trips to the Museum.
Since last June, 15 schools have benefited
from a $8,000 transportation fund that was started with last year's
100th gala mystery auction donations. Contributions from generous
community members added to this important fund, making field trips
possible. Fund donors have made a big
difference, making art and art museum programs accessible to students.
Many schools face very tough budget decisions, and paying for field trips and the buses necessary for the field trips is sometimes difficult to squeeze into budget priorities. The opportunity for students to experience art first-hand is a priority and this fund will help the MMA help teachers to make that a reality for their students.
The new fund was kicked off last summer when museum patrons at the Museum’s 100th Anniversary Gala event donated funds through a live auction for the School Field Trip Fund. Curator of Education Catherine Mott said, “The response and excitement of donors was beyond my expectations. Creating meaningful educational experiences with world-class art is a major part of the MMA’s mission and it is encouraging to see that others have the same vision. There is nothing better than the sound of little voices that represent the next generation of art lovers in our galleries exploring art. This fund will make it possible for that to continue.”
