Songs In Steel: The Sculpture of Caroline Lee
This exhibition of stainless, machines, and bronze sculptures, along with sketches and technical drawings, introduces MMA visitors to the work of Chicago native Caroline Lee, who has lived and worked in Paris since 1958. Lee’s sculptures, formed both organically and with machine tooling, are dynamic and aggressive, often with soaring elements whose origins can be found in her memories of long summers in Holland, Michigan, as a child. “Even though I am a wanderer from Paris,” Lee says, “my heart returns to Michigan to be re-nourished, to survive, to persevere.” The full color illustrated book presents the story of the artist's life and work and includes curatorial essays.

Innovators & Legends: Generations in Textiles and Fiber
This exhibition was organized for national tour by the MMA and guest curator Geary A. Jones. The exhibition features works by top tier, internationally celebrated fiber artists, and explores the fine art textile movement over the past century through the contemporary artwork of four generations of artists. The rich variety of assembled pieces illustrates the transformation of fibers from functional and decorative use to today’s forms created with a wide array of diverse materials and techniques. The artwork addresses issues such as narrative, identity, ecology, recycling, and political thought, and demonstrates beauty and visual richness achieved through color, pattern, texture, and form. This full color book illustrates works by all 50 of the artists represented in Innovators and Legends, along with artist statements, biographical notes, and curatorial essays.
